The truth is we are always at SOME stage of reading, and all year long we've been embedding reading and writing into our play centres. But 'reading and writing float on a sea of talk' (James Britton), which means listening and speaking are far more important than a written product right now. In fact, oral communication is the backbone of the Kindergarten Program documents from the ministry!
